Ms. Hayward has assisted over 500 healthcare institutions throughout the U.S. to economically and efficiently plan their capital investments by integrating strategic business planning, operations redesign, financial analysis, and equipment/ technology planning with facility planning.

  • In the mid-1970s, she was part of a team that was contracted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop a generic healthcare facility planning process for hospitals across the United States.

  • In the early 1980’s, she served as Project Director for a five-year contract with National Health and Welfare Canada to develop a series of space planning methodologies for healthcare facilities (Evaluation and Space Programming Methodology Series). In addition to their widespread utilization in Canada, these methodologies were widely used by regulatory agencies, architects, and hospital planners throughout the U.S. for the subsequent decade.

  • In 1995, she authored the ChiPlan Space Planning Guide for Healthcare Facilities which won an Outstanding Research Award from the American Institute of Architects.

  • She has subsequently authored the SpaceMedGuide ― A Space Planning Guide for Healthcare Facilities (originally known as SpaceMed2004) which includes a step-by-step workbook and a CD-ROM with detailed space planning templates.

  • In early 2006, she authored Healthcare Facility Planning: Thinking Strategically which is part of the American Association of Healthcare Executives Management Series published by Health Administration Press. She also prepared a Self-Study Course for the ACHE titled Preparing a Long-Range Facility Investment Strategy.

Ms. Hayward is an ongoing contributor to Strategic Financial Planning, a quarterly publication of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and has authored articles in various industry publications over the past two decades.
